(January 4, 2026) Correspondences are objects which either trigger emotions, focus emotions, or open subconscious emotional/spiritual channels.
Many things produce emotional responses in people depending upon that person's spiritual sensitivity. Conscious sensations tend to have an emotional valuation on a scale ranging between "something to be desired" to "something to avoided." This is because conscious sensations and their memories are used in evaluating goals and paths. The "smarter" the animal is, the better an animal will be at evaluating possible goals and the more complex will be its consciousness.
(January 4, 2026) Listed below are the common resonances for the most popular stones (but how it affects you may be different):

(January 2, 2026) The classical elements (earth, water, air, fire) were first mentioned in the west by Greek philosopher Empedocles (c. 450 BCE) as the "four roots" of matter. Later Aristotle added a fifth, Aether to represent the pure stuff of the heavens.
Elemental correspondences provides a simple framework encompassing most emotions and related objects which remind one of those emotions. During rituals, they are typically associated with the corner directions of a sacred space and are "called" (brought to the attention of the participants) when that sacred space is being set up and closed. The directional associations listed for the elements below are the normal ones for North America and Europe but they can vary depending on the people and the exact location of the ritual. Remember, emotional resonances are personal feelings which others may or may not share.
Earth
Air (ancient languages used the same word for air and spirit)
Fire
Water
Significantly, one of the oldest Buddhist Sutras, the Salistamba Sutra (verse 26) also mentions the classical powers. The Salistramba Sutra started coming to together starting around 250 CE and reached it final form around 400 CE. Its purpose was the systematize the growing number of teachings attributed to Buddha into a more coherent whole. It mentions these powers:
It also mentions space-factor/hollowness (akasa) and consciousness-factor (vijnana) which is associated with names, forms, and the 6 senses. These are powers which are not the self or soul. Together these are called the dhatus.
(January 3, 2025) One example of the power of correspondences is the placebo effect which shows both its strengths and limitations. It works based upon how conditioned expectations (faith) affect the release of stress response chemicals in the body. This is not willful desire, it is either conditioned learning or genetics. So be careful about what becomes a habit of mind for mental habits gives that belief power over you, even if that belief has no basis in reality. This is the source of many self-delusions.
The word “placebo” means “I shall please” and it derives from the Latin verb “placere” meaning “to please.” Due to the effectiveness of placebos all new medical drugs are tested against placebos as a test of material effectiveness. Only if a new drug is statistically better than the placebo effect is it considered to be materially “effective.”
If the pre-frontal cortex of the brain is impaired as it often is in Parkinson's disease then the placebo effect is also impaired (Benedetti and all 2011). This part of the brain is responsible for setting expectations and defining goal directed behaviors.
(December 2, 2025) Numbers have had correspondences since ancient times.
"Wholeness, Unity"
"Polarity" - from the opposite ends of things
"Connectedness" - from the linkage of opposites. The number three has the connective middle. This is thus the number of days to transition between states in ancient legal codes. This is why tradition had to claim that Jesus took three days to change from a mortal life to a divine life. A 3-pointed triangle represents a door connecting two realms.
"Earth" - from the four cardinal directions, the "ends of the earth," The four winds, etc.
"Humanity" - from the five appendages of humans (2 arms, 2 legs, 1 head). As a five pointed star it represents humanity, when put into the bounded yet infinite circle it represents the divine-human connection as the Pentacle.
"Totality" - from the complete filling of flat space by a hexagon and the filling of 3-D space by a six sided cube. Six chambers are found in vegetables like tomatoes and peppers. Quartz crystals and snow flakes have six sides.
"Divine" - from the number of planetary spheres or heavens in ancient times. (sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn). Also the Pleiades star cluster which was known as the seven sisters in ancient times.
"Luck" - from the balance inherent in the Divine - This meaning comes from its shape as two circles which individually represent bounded infinity. Bounded infinity is a divine principle. Divine balance produces luck because fortune can shift easily either way.

"Completeness" - from the number of lunar cycles (months) in a year. So Israel had to have 12 tribes and Jesus had to have 12 disciples.
