A propane molecule consists of 3 carbon atoms forming the central chain. The other molecules are hydrogen. These carbon chains can become quite longs and the longer the chain the heavier the fuel oil. It formula is C3H8 where C is carbon and H is hydrogen.
(January 4, 2026) How an herb smells is central to its spiritual correspondence and these odors are mainly defined by a chemical class known as terpenes. They are hydrocarbons which are made only of hydrogen and carbon atoms (no oxygen). Yet unlike the simple hydrocarbons used as fuel which only have single bonds between carbon atoms, terpenes have multiple double bonds and/or rings making their core rigid instead of floppy so cell receptors can distinguish them.
Terpenes have the chemical formula C5H8 or multiples of that like C10H16, etc.
The carbon atom is the building block of the universe because it can have 4 possible connections to other atoms. If you want to make a square you use carbon atoms.
Propene or Propylene (old name) has one double bond making the bond rigid. Single bonds are like strings allowing the atoms to rotate and swing around to a significant degree. Its formula is C3H7. This is not a terpene.
This is a terpene which is most common in pine trees. It has one double bond and two rings with one ring being a square. Its formula is C10H16. Notice the rigidity of the central section.
